College Trip to Harry Potter World: A Positive Experience for the Young Person

On the 24/02/2026, one of the YP’s (Young Person) in our care went on a college trip to Harry Potter World proving to be an overwhelmingly positive experience for her. She demonstrated confidence, patience and excellent engagement throughout the day, making the visit a memorable and highly successful outing.

Smooth Start to the Day

The YP arrived at college at 08:10, excited and ready for the adventure ahead. She boarded the coach with her college peers and staff, settling comfortably for the journey. The trip went smoothly and she entertained herself by playing on her Nintendo Switch, having a short nap, and joining in the “yellow car” spotting game with peers. Her positive social interaction and independence were clear from the start.

Arriving at the Studios

Steph Wilson (Team Leader), Mallie (Residential Support Worker) and the YP arrived at Warner Bros. Studios at around 10:30. Despite the venue being very busy, the YP managed exceptionally well throughout the entire experience. She waited patiently in queues, remained calm in crowded areas and showed no signs of distress or frustration.

Exploring the Magic of Harry Potter

Throughout the tour, which lasted until around 14:30, the YP fully immersed herself in the magical world of Harry Potter. She engaged confidently with staff, her peers and the members of college staff supporting her. Steph, Mallie and a college staff member accompanied her and all worked effectively together. The YP responded positively to each of them, demonstrating strong communication and trust.

Around 13:00, the group stopped for lunch. The YP ate ham sandwiches provided by college and bought a Butterbeer drink from the café, which is a well-known item from the Harry Potter books and films. This added to her excitement, as she loves everything related to Harry Potter.

Her favourite moment of the entire trip happened in the Forbidden Forest. When the group reached the giant spiders section, she was thrilled. Later, she expressed how meaningful the experience was by saying, “This was one of the best days of my life.”

She remained engaged and enthusiastic throughout, taking her time to appreciate each display.

Return Journey and End of Day

After finishing the tour, Steph, Mallie and the YP returned to the coach. She kept herself entertained on the journey back by playing on her Nintendo Switch and enjoying the items she had purchased from the gift shop. She purchased a wizard hat and a Ravenclaw poster. She receives £40 per week from Act Care as personal allowance and makes her own choices about what she wants to buy.

The coach returned to college at approximately 16:15. The YP remained in good spirits and reflected very positively on the whole experience.

Summary

Overall, the YP demonstrated excellent behaviour, emotional regulation, patience and social interaction throughout the entire trip. She coped extremely well with a busy and stimulating environment, engaged confidently with staff and peers and embraced every aspect of the experience. Her enthusiasm was clear and her joyful comment that it was “one of the best days of my life” highlights how impactful and enjoyable the trip was for her.
