When a scheduled youth club session was cancelled, staff organised a trip to Barry Island. The outing gave a young person the opportunity to enjoy a change of scenery, try new activities and spend time with peers and staff in a positive environment positive environment.
The Journey to Barry Island
The group set off in the morning, with Mohammad driving and Summaya and Jamiu joining the trip. The journey took approximately two and a half hours, giving everyone time to chat and enjoy the anticipation of a day at the seaside.
Learning Life-Saving Skills
One of the highlights of the visit was taking part in a free Dog CPR class. The session introduced basic pet first aid techniques and provided an opportunity to learn something new in a fun and engaging setting.
The young person thoroughly enjoyed the activity and showed great enthusiasm throughout the session. As a special bonus, they were gifted a complimentary hat by the organisation delivering the training, making the experience even more memorable.

Enjoying the Barry Island Fairground
Following the Dog CPR session, the group headed to the fairground to explore some of Barry Island’s most popular attractions.

The young person enjoyed several rides throughout the afternoon, including:
- The Waltzers
- The Swings
- The Caterpillar Ride
The rides brought plenty of excitement, laughter and opportunities to build positive memories with peers and staff. Taking part in these activities encouraged confidence and helped create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for everyone involved.
In addition to the rides and activities, the young person enjoyed taking photographs throughout the day, including pictures with a gorilla statue and a panda display. These fun photo opportunities helped make the visit even more memorable and provided keepsakes from an enjoyable day at Barry Island.

Relaxing by the Seaside
After enjoying the rides, the group spent some time along the beachfront, taking in the fresh sea air and enjoying the lively atmosphere that Barry Island is known for.
They stopped for food and enjoyed traditional seaside favourites, with the young person choosing scampi and chips before treating themselves to some delicious churros.

A Memorable Day Out at Barry Island
The group spent approximately four hours at Barry Island before beginning the journey home. Although the youth club session had been cancelled, the alternative activity proved to be an excellent experience.
The trip combined learning, social interaction, adventure and relaxation, allowing the young person to try new activities, strengthen relationships with staff and peers, and create lasting positive memories. From attending a Dog CPR workshop to enjoying fairground rides and seaside treats, the day was a resounding success and a fantastic example of making the most of unexpected changes to plans.
