A young person at Enidaso House recently enjoyed a rewarding cooking and baking activity that combined planning, organisation and creativity. What began with a personalised recipe book soon developed into a hands-on experience that strengthened practical skills while producing a delicious homemade treat.
A Personal Recipe Book Full of Favourite Foods
A member of staff created a personalised recipe book containing a selection of the young person’s favourite meals, snacks and sweet treats. Having a collection of favourite recipes in one place provided inspiration for future cooking activities and encouraged greater engagement in meal planning and food preparation.

Staff designed the recipe book to be easy to use., allowing the young person to explore different recipes and choose activities that matched personal interests and preferences.
Planning the Shopping Trip
After receiving the recipe book, the young person chose a recipe to make. The young person then created a shopping list with the required ingredients.
This activity helped develop planning and decision-making skills while encouraging responsibility and organisation. Completing a shopping list before visiting the supermarket is an important life skill that supports independence and preparation for everyday tasks.
Once at the shop, the young person selected the required ingredients before returning home and putting the shopping away independently.

The wide range of recipes included in the book means there are plenty of opportunities to continue developing cooking skills through future activities.
Following a Recipe Step by Step
With the ingredients ready, the young person chose to make cinnamon rolls using one of the recipes from the personalised recipe book.
Following the recipe helped develop several valuable skills. These included reading instructions, measuring ingredients accurately and completing each step in the correct order.

Working through the recipe step by step helped build confidence in the kitchen while demonstrating the importance of preparation and following instructions.
A Delicious Result
After carefully following the recipe, the young person successfully baked a batch of cinnamon rolls.

Seeing the finished product brought a real sense of achievement and highlighted the progress made throughout the activity. From creating a shopping list to following a recipe and completing the bake, every stage provided opportunities to learn and practise valuable daily living skills.
The young person also demonstrated positive social skills by offering some of the freshly baked cinnamon rolls to staff members. The thoughtful gesture was greatly appreciated, and everyone who tried the finished bake enjoyed it.
Celebrating Everyday Achievements at Enidaso House
Activities such as cooking and baking provide meaningful opportunities for young people to develop practical skills in a fun and engaging way. Whether planning a shopping trip, following a recipe or sharing the finished results with others, these experiences help build confidence and encourage personal growth.
At Enidaso House, it is always wonderful to see young people embrace new challenges, develop new skills and take pride in their achievements.
